Alexandria Clay Cooperative is the legacy of Creative Clay Studios and all the people who came with us from that studio. In late November 2013 it appeared that Creative Clay was in serious financial trouble. In January a group of members organized an exodus from what had been our home for many years at the Creative Clay Studios in the Bren Mar warehouse complex off General Washington Drive.
Notes from the President:
A little about Alexandria Clay Cooperative or ACC: I have crafted this new cooperative relationship hopefully, to reflect the way we relate to each other. Are we an “Artsy Social Club”? Definitely, but our standards are always those of responsibility to each other. We are mostly hobbyist in approach as opposed to a publicly supported studio. This is not to say we will not apply for some 501(tax free) status in the future but for now we are a non-profit corporation because it is expedient to be so. This is a small studio and will be over full at forty members with five classes, which is my goal. My main concern is that ACC becomes self sustaining. It is imperative that everyone who comes here have a stake in the studio and a sense of shared responsibility and an appreciation of fellow members.
